Interview with Jason Pengelly

Name:

Jason Pengelly

Age:

45

Occupation:

Carpenter, joiner, furniture designer/maker Artist

Location:

South Devon

What inspired you to become an artist?

Going through a series of complex shoulder surgeries gave me the opportunity to step back from the "day job" and go back to my earliest form of creating. Applying multiple colours to any medium close to hand.

Do you make a living off your art?

As yet I don't make a living from my art, it gives me the odd bit of pocket money , which enables me to explore more artistic avenues one by one.

What's the most indispensable item in your studio?

Mobile phone- for photography, editing, music and making fun out of fellow artist friends on social media.

Where do your ideas come from?

If I knew then I'd tell you. They just appear!  Do you collect anything?  My wife says I'm a bit of a hoarder, so you could say I collect everything. Personally, I don't like to throw something away that may have a use one day.

What's the last artwork you purchased?

A commission from Annatomix, a birthday present for my wife.

What was the first artwork you ever sold?

The first piece I sold was a stencilled cow on a broken up pallet.

Who's your favourite living artist?

My favourite living artist(s) would be Fanakapan & My Dog Sighs.

Who's your favourite dead artist?

Andy Warhol.

If you couldn't create art what would you do?

If I couldn't create art I'd design and make more furniture .
