Interview with Diane Nowell

Name:

Diane Nowell

Age:

45

Occupation:

Artist

Location:

Cambridgeshire

What inspired you to become an artist?

I have always loved to create but my main reason for becoming an artist was to managed anxiety and depression. When sketching and painting I feel that I am in a safe place and I feel comfortable with myself and my creativity.

Do you make a living off your art?

I do ok but not enough to live on unfortunately, however I do have spurts where I struggle to keep up with demand.

What's the most indispensable item in your studio?

Me, cannot make art without me now can I

Where do your ideas come from?

I love beautiful things, I mainly paint people, I love quirky as well. So I would say my ideas come from my surroundings and old movies.

Do you collect anything?

Do I! Yes, art and vinyl

What's the last artwork you purchased?

My last artwork purchased was a Leigh Hammett Bowie oil painting, well a print of it as I couldn't afford the original.

What's the first artwork you ever sold?

I think it was a commission for a friend

Who's your favourite living artist?

To many out there to mention, there is so much talent out there and with social media it is so much more accessible than it used to be, you don't have to be a trained artist to be good and you are now able to showcase it to the world.

Who's your favourite dead artist?

Easy one for me - Dali what a pervert but what a talent.

If you couldn't create art what would you do?

Throw my teddy in the corner.

What's your favourite thing you've ever created?

I don't know I have lots that I love and lots that I hate. It would be unfair to pick one in particular.
