Interview with Indie Matharu

Name:

Indie Matharu

Occupation:

Artist

Location:

London

What inspired you to become an artist?

I've always liked art. It was my favourite subject at school. I studied Graphic Design and worked as a digital designer. I hadn't done any drawing since leaving Uni. I was made redundant a couple of years ago and after talking to a friend i started drawing again.

Do you make a living off your art?

Well I'm not working so yes.

What's the most indispensable item in your studio?

The space I guess. I'm not v good at drawing in front of people so having the space to work is very important to me.

Where do your ideas come from?

I am constantly looking for inspiration. I like to put emotion into my drawing too so a fair bit comes from that.

Do you collect anything?

No

What's the last artwork you purchased?

It was a print of David Bowie by Leigh Hammett

What was the first artwork you ever sold?

A portrait of David Bowie

Who's your favourite living artist?

I have a fair few. Gabriel Moreno, Sam Bee, Damon Farkas, Jimmy Edvardsen, Kiran Gandhi, Ian Bourne to name a few.

Who's your favourite dead artist?

Rembrandt, Constable, Turner

If you couldn't create art what would you do?

That's a really difficult question. I've only been drawing for a couple of years and I draw every day. It was be a massive void in my life. I'm not really sure...
